Tuesday, October 12, 2010 WORKSHOP SUMMARY *BOILING POINT:  The High Cost of Unhealthy Anger to Individuals and Society* Jane Middleton-Moz There are many indicators in our world today that life is out of balance.  Stress related illnesses,  addictions of all kinds, wide spread use of anti depressant medications, lateral violence within racial and ethnic groups and between women, road rage, ADHD (Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder), cults, righteousness, domestic violence, rage, and perhaps most frightening, our children killing our children. In this presentation, participants will learn the impact of current and historical familial cultural and  societal trauma, increased technological advancements, and resulting disconnection on the individuals and families they treat.  The dynamics of lateral violence, multiple addictions, the most recent studies on the factors contributing to ADHD, and the effects of societal desensitization, isolation, and operent conditioning will be presented. GOALS AND OBJECTIVIES: 1).   To understand the impact of historical trauma, increased technology and societal disconnection on individuals, families, and communities. 2).   To understand “Lateral Violence” and it’s impact on individuals from many racial, religious, ethnic and sexual orientation groups. 3),   Participants will understand the impact of societal desensitization and operant conditioning  techniques (in the form of video games and computer programs) on children resulting in increased  diagnosis of ADHD and violent behaviors. 4).   Participants will learn the correlation between unresolved grief and trauma, the inability to express healthy anger, and multiple addictions. 5).   Participants will learn the causes of societal disconnection and it’s impact on addictions, illness,  relationship patterns, depression and violence. 6).   Participants will learn styles of healthy and unhealthy anger expression and methods to aid clients in understanding and expressing healthy anger.
