TRAIN the TRAINERS
Prescription Drug Abuse
August 23 - August 27, 2010
Goal:
Participants will gain the knowledge, skills and attitudes required to effectively address the issue of prescription drug abuse in their communities.
Program Objectives:

Participants will become aware of their personal views on drug addiction pre 1980's versus the current times and changing trends with regards
to drug addictions
★
Participants will become aware of an understanding of the complexities associated with drug addiction.
★
Participants will become aware of how drug addiction develops.
★
Participants will become aware of the myths about drug addiction and substance abuse
★
Participants will become aware of the effects of the far reaching effects of drug addiction
★
Participants will become aware of the impact of drug addiction on the individual, family, community and society at large.
★
Participants will become aware of the common signs and symptoms of drug abuse.
★
Participants will become aware of the commonly abused drugs and the signs and symptoms of continued use.
★
Participants will become aware of the warning signs that a friend or family member is abusing drugs.
★
Participants will become aware of the tools to assist an individual in understanding if they have a substance abuse problem.
★
Participants will become aware of the various treatment options that are available concerning drug addiction.
★
Participants will become aware of the steps required to assist individuals in treatment readiness for drug treatment and recovery.
★
Participants will become aware of the three major types of preventative intervention: primary, secondary and tertiary.
★
Participants will become aware of the three major factors that play a role in affecting the use of substances: host, agent and environment
★
Participants will become aware of the problems that may affect the successful development and implementation of prevention programs at
community level.
★
Participants will become aware of the four pillar approach to community healing.
★
Participants will become aware of the impact of concurrent disorders and the impact this has on treating addictions.
★
Participants will become aware of the philosophy regarding harm reduction
★
Participants will become aware of the need to establish community partnerships with other service providers.
★
Participants will become aware of the treatment models that currently exist.
★
Participants will become aware of the elements of an effective treatment plan.
★
Participants will become aware of the concept of aftercare.

Participants will become aware of the concept of relapse prevention and the issues that hinder recovery.
The Train the Trainers on Prescription Drugs is a five day program that is structured much like
the Community Addictions training offered at Neechi Institute. It will provide participants with the
necessary knowledge, skills and attitudes required to understand the effects of prescription drug
abuse on the individual, family, community and nation. This program will address the needs of
our communities by assisting frontline workers in exploring the various strategies, presentations
and programming that is required to empower our people in exploring treatment options that will
enhance their healing journey.
